Services

Service Description:

mikesartifacts – an eBay store, specializing in quality collectible items. (ar'te-fakt') noun. An object produced or shaped by human craft, an ornament of archaeological or historical interest. (Dictionary.com)

First of all, there is no we at mikesartifacts, there is only me. I prefer to keep a small operation as I alone can ensure a level of quality that you will appreciate. I am a long time collector and student of American Pop Culture with an aerospace manufacturing and marketing background, so you will find my service to be detailed and professional. If you choose mikesartifacts as a venue to auction your antiques or collectibles, you will be dealing directly with me, not some underpaid assistant. This is important when considering placing valuable or delicate collectible items on consignment, as the chain of custody is from you to me directly, or through insured US Mail if small enough to mail. My attention to detail translates into final auction prices being at the upper end for a given object.

I accept a variety of items that have a value of $150.00 or more. Items of historical significance will be thoroughly researched and described, and I can post up to 24 super-sized photographs at no additional charge to you. Auction listings are not from a boiler plate template, but are individual to the item itself. I have had the pleasure of auctioning the following list of items for various clients/myself, and is representative of the type of artifacts I am eager to market for you:

· Gold Rush era - Old West memorabilia – Navaho saddle blankets, spurs, mining ephemera/paper, maps, assayer’s equipment, carbide lanterns, dynamite detonators.
· Civil War era – swords, musical instruments, earthen ware/pottery, bottles.
· Certified Coins, vintage bicycles/parts, movie posters, and antique clocks.
· Militaria, Mid-Century house wares, vintage tools and electronics.
· Vintage advertising art, ephemera, original artwork, porcelain signs, newspapers, etc.
· Vintage fishing rods, reels and lures, pre-war wooden plugs and fishing licenses.
· Vintage sports memorabilia – passes, tickets, autographs and newspaper headlines.
· Cast iron and tin-litho toys, mechanical banks, porcelain and bisque dolls, automobile dealer promo cars.
· Ephemera – railway and steamship passes, ornate stock certificates, mining industry paper, checks, colonial documents.
· Vintage bicycles and parts - specializing in prewar Schwin.

Coins: Your certified, raw or naturally toned rainbow coins will be handled with the utmost care, and will be closely inspected and attributed for die varieties, which can greatly increase the final sale price of your coin. See special fee structure below that applies to coins only.

Imaging:

As an avid photographer for over 25 years, high quality images (up to 24) will be provided to showcase your collectible in a clear and concise manner. I employ 35 mm film and digital cameras, as well as a digital flatbed scanner (best for capt

Fees:

There are no upfront fees (some Trading Assistants charge $10 to $25 for photographing and writing the listing, whether the item sells or not). You will not be charged a dime until your item sells. You will find my fees to be in the low to middle range when compared to others who offer this service. Ebay and PayPal fees are paid by the consignor. There are listing fees, final value fees (a percentage), and an additional 2.9% of the final selling price is taken by PayPal and Merchant credit cards. Ebay no longer allows personal checks, cashiers checks or money orders as a form of payment.

I charge a flat rate on a sliding scale, as follows:

Items selling for   $300.00 or less              = 18% commission, consignor pays all ebay fees
$300.01 to $700.00       = 15% commission, consignor pays all ebay fees
$700.01 to $3,000.00    = 12% commission, consignor pays all ebay fees
$3,000.01 to $7,500.00 = 10% commission, consignor pays all ebay fees
$7,500.01 and up          = 7.5% commission, consignor pays all ebay fees

Coins only: 6% commission and consignor pays all ebay fees, $10.00 minimum charge.

Any questions about fees? just ask!

Terms And Conditions:

I have been an active buyer on eBay since 2003, so I know first hand what buyers are looking for, and what they seek to avoid in the marketplace. Through extensive experience I have seen that auctions starting out at .99 cents seem to generate the most interest and bidding activity. There is risk involved with this strategy, though there is no doubt that quality items that are clearly presented will sell themselves. If you wish to protect your bottom line with a reserve or a higher starting price, this is your choice, though interest in an auction that has a reserve is often not bid on at all. Realize that unless your artifact is actually rare in any condition, it is likely that there is a similar item starting at .99 cents at the same time your reserve auction is running, and all potential bidders will flock to the item with a lower starting price. If you choose to protect an item with a reserve, and the item does not sell, I will need to charge a $10.00 fee to partially cover my time in preparing the listing. I will relist any unsold items at your direction, only regular fees will apply.

I have a good sense of what will sell under basic conditions, and will not waste your time or mine. I have seen some disappointing auction results on occasion, but more often I have seen some truly stunning results, results that no one expected. You will find me to be knowledgeable, easy going and fair, and most importantly - honest.

Please tell me as much as you can about your artifact, its history or any peculiar details. This will help me to accurately represent your collectible to the buying public. I rarely ship to countries other than Canada, in an effort to avoid fraud or scams, but I do screen international buyers if they contact me during an auction, and they seem legitimate with verified addresses, etc. If you prefer that I limit your item to American buyers only, just let me know. Customer satisfaction is extremely important to me, and I will strive to make our transaction a satisfying experience. If you have any interesting collectibles or antiques that you want to sell, you have found the right place. Thanks for your consideration. Mike
